Too Many People Know What Isn't So

The most frequent criticism of my new book was exemplified by a literary agent who said my statement (chapter 5) that fat Americans don't lose significant weight with exercise destroys my credibility, even though--get this--the agent admitted she herself had never seen anyone lose weight with exercise. I have said that the majority of Americans mistake belief for knowledge, that they never left the Middle Ages, and there is no finer example than this! Hello. All scientific knowledge is based on observation, sometimes through experiment, and never on theory. Theory never trumps competent observation. No real scientist is confused about this. More...

Difficult Challenges - Personality Types

The vast majority of fat patients listen to me, retain what I say, read the material I give them and make a sincere effort to follow my advice. But as every bariatrician knows, there is a small number who keep coming to the office to talk, learn nothing and make no effort to improve. Most of these patients will never lose weight. Skin Tags

Skin tags are small, fleshy growths on the neck and in the armpits. Occasionally elsewhere. Their color ranges from pink to black. They are not moles and do not become cancerous. They can be unsightly. The medical term for a skin tag is acrochordon. Don't ask me the plural. More...

Here are more things to say to increase compliance with weight-loss instructions. You may say these sayings are elitist, but you can't argue they don't work, because they do (in Montgomery County, Maryland). I know. More...
