Is Obesity a Character Flaw?

Patients coming for weight-loss advice, especially those returning after a lapse, are often embarrassed, some so embarrassed they don't return at all. Why is that? They fear that I will believe they have a character flaw. Religious people even worry their obesity will be seen as a moral flaw. Instead, they find that I am always patient, sympathetic, constructive and non-judgmental. I am that way because it is the best way to get good results with patients. More...

Vicks Vapor Rub and Fungal Toenails

There is a new, old, effective treatment for fungal toenails, a common condition in overweight people. Vicks Vapor Rub. It's a good thing, too, because anti-fungal pills are expensive ($700 for a full course), dangerous (cause or contribute to hepatitis) and not always effective. I read an article about the use of Vicks Vapor Rub for fungus, and I declare that I am now 2 for 2 with my patients.
