Testing The Patients

I've made a real breakthrough. The challenge was the 40% or so of my patients who lose less than 10 lb in the first six weeks. These patients are marked as being either (1) hypothyroid or, more likely, (2) not committed to the program. In spite of everything, they believed they were going to take some pills, do nothing else I asked, and lose weight. I have figured out how to deal with these people. More...

Merely Reducing Dietary Fat Does Nothing Useful

Several patients called this morning to ask my reaction to the current JAMA articles showing that a low-fat diet over 8 years in 50+ year old women did not reduce incidence of colon cancer, breast cancer or cardiovascular disease. The patients, who were a fair crossection of the U.S.public, did not lose weight either. It's no surprise. The diet reduced all types of fat and replaced them with carbs calorie for calorie.
