The Most Common Cause Of Stress

Hard to explain why stress is such a cause of obesity–when I am stressed, I lose my appetite–but among the people who fight obesity, stress is a major cause of snacking and overeating. So it is worthwhile to look at the causes of stress. Cognitive neuroscientists do.
The major source of stress in most people is: being given responsibility without sufficient power.
You would think Presidents of the United States would feel stress, but they have not–they had adequate power. Rich people, too, little stress. Doctors middle-age and older no stress. Instead, the groups experiencing the most stress are teachers and nurses, administrative assistants and parents. Husbands with controlling wives. Wives with domineering husbands. Kids with strict parents. Writers without a publisher. Patients with uncontrollable disease.
Nothing reduces stress better than removing some of the responsibility, or giving people the reins of control.
You can remove the burden of responsibility yourself, from yourself, by taking into account what you can change and what you can’t. “Give me the courage to change what I can change, the patience to endure what I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
