Why Soda And Colas Are So Bad
Thursday, April 03, 2014 12:44 pm Email this article
Fat people drink a lot of soda. Soda meaning “sweetened carbonated beverage”. Sodas, diet or regular, raise insulin blocking weight loss. They acidify the blood leading to osteoporosis, dental problems and kidney stones.
Carbonated water has a pH of 6.0; blood normally has a pH of 7.35. As a consequence of the kidney’s effort to maintain the high pH of blood in the face of acid from soda, the bicarbonate and potassium levels fall. Low potassium raises blood pressure and contributes to heart disease. Calcium leached out of bones and teeth is excreted by the kidney. 10% of the general population gets kidney stones; 20% of fat people do.
As bad as soda is, cola beverages are even worse. The phosphoric acid in Coca Cola reduces the pH to 2.5, low enough to cut holes in a counter top. My neighbor when I was young dissolved his old baby teeth in Coca Cola as a science project. Trucks carrying Coca Cola base are marked HAZMAT.
